New Delhi: Switzerland Tennis legend Roger Federer announced his retirement from competitive Tennis and will not be taking part in ATP Tours and Grand Slams after the upcoming Laver Cup. The 41-year-old Tennis star shared an audio note and a heartfelt letter on Twitter making the announcement. He stated that it was a ‘bittersweet decision’ for him.

The news has made Tennis fans and his colleagues upset that he will not be seen playing major tours. Meanwhile, netizens are thanking him for his services to the sport and are expecting him to perform well in the Laver Cup.

The official Twitter handle of the ATP Tour gave a tribute to the Tennis legend and wrote, “You changed the game.”

Fans are upset about the fact that Roger Federer and Serena Williams are retiring in the same year. These back-to-back shockers have left an impact on the fans.

In his illustrious career, he has played more than 1500 competitive games and has won 103 ATP Singles titles including 20 Grand Slams. His last Grand Slam came in the 2018 Australian Open where he won against Marin Cilic in the finals. His last professional tournament the Laver Cup will be a three-day tournament starting on September 23.
