“The batters are struggling….” Bangladesh’s skipper Shanto talks about the loss against USA in 1st T20

Bangladesh had a catastrophic outing against minnows USA in the first T20I of the 3-match T20 series.

New Delhi: Bangladesh had a catastrophic outing against minnows USA in the first T20I of the 3-match T20 series. The Tigers displayed a mediocre performance against minnows USA to slump to a 5-wicket defeat. Bangladesh was poor from the start, especially with the bat where the Tigers looked scratchy and out of form.

Bangladesh’s skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has remarked about his side’s poor batting display in the post-match conference. “We didn’t bat well. We started well but in the middle lost a couple of wickets….” Furthermore, Shanto also critiqued the way the seamers have let down the team when it came to defending the total.

In the end, the skipper went on to laud the spinners who had been the only shining light in the entire 40-over contest. Shanto said that it was due to the effort of the spinners that his side was in contention in the game in the initial phase of the game. But in the end, the total was a little too little too much to defend.

What happened in the game?

Winning the toss, United States captain Monank Patel opted to bowl first on a tricky wicket. The visitors started in the worst possible manner as opener Litton Das was dismissed in the 4th over itself. Next to follow was Soumya Sarkar and skipper Shanto who looked completely out of touch. Bangladesh would have ended up in a paltry total hadn’t their middle-order batsmen Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah played crucial knocks to take the score past 150.

In reply, USA came out all guns blazing as openers Steven Taylor, Monank Patel and Andries Gous all played handy knocks. However, tight bowling from the Bangladeshi spinners, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahedi Hasan and Mahmudullah pulled back things for the visitors. At one stage the hosts were struggling at 94/5 after the end of the 14th over. However, Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh both played handy knocks to seal the game for the United States.

For the United States, this win is a very big morale booster for the American boys as they have registered a win against a full-member ICC team. On the other hand, Bangladesh will look to solve the batting enigma that has gripped the team before a crucial World Cup.
