“There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team…”-Gambhir on the Head Coach Job for India

Fresh from the IPL 2024 triumph, KKR mentor and former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir looks to take on the charge for team India.

New Delhi: Fresh from the IPL 2024 triumph, KKR mentor and former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir looks to take on the charge for team India. Gambhir who is the most talked about cricketer is weaving a fairy tale around the entire cricketing circuit.

The firebrand cricket that GG has come up with has helped KKR win this year’s IPL with ease. Naturally, BCCI will be eying for a repeat of the same when it comes to the national side. The 42-year-old has also been affirmative about the same and after several rumours has finally opened up about the job.

At a recent event in Abu Dhabi, the former Indian cricketer has finally broken his silence. “I have not answered this question, although a lot of people have asked me….I would love to coach the Indian team…” With the confirmation coming from Gautam himself, it will be interesting to see how the entire selection stalemate ends.

Can the GG era ensure a dramatic turnaround?

Gambhir’s inclusion in the coaching can turn out to be a fresh breath of air for Indian cricket. Moreover, Gambhir’s philosophy of fearless cricket coupled with a knack for young talent can turn out to be a new direction for Team India.

BCCI had already issued a notification that the last date to fill up the application for BCCI head coach was 27th May. Gautam had not filled out the application by then. However, with a lack of “quality candidates“, as reported by BCCI to CricketNext, the former is considering some extraordinary measures for the appointment.

Naturally, there is a chance that Gautam can be handed his new job without the usual procedures of an interview for all the candidates who have filled out the form. However, many questions remain unanswered before Gautam’s appointment. The primary question that lingers is can the Kolkata Knight Riders afford to let go of Gautam after such a successful season?
