‘They did not give me Best Catch…’: MS Dhoni talks about wicketkeeping, admits he’s getting old (WATCH)

He mentioned that he was not in the right position, but at times one is in the ‘wrong place at the wrong time’ to take the catch.

New Delhi: MS Dhoni has not only been an entertainer on the field, but his post-match presentations have also been something to look out for. The same was the case after CSK beat SRH and skipper Dhoni talked about his job behind the stumps and also mentioned that this is the last phase of his career and that he is getting old.

When Harsha Bhogle asked Dhoni about being ‘timeless’ behind the stumps, the wicketkeeper complained about not getting the Best Catch award and said that people think that wicketkeeping is easy just because keepers wear gloves. He mentioned that he was not in the right position, but at times one is in the ‘wrong place at the wrong time’ to take the catch.

Dhoni mentioned that he remembers Rahul Dravid once and he took a similar catch. He added that once a player gets old, the experiences come into play unless the player is Sachin Tendulkar who can even return to play at the age of 60 or 70. Harsha interrupted and asked if he thinks he is old, to which Dhoni replied that he cannot shy away from the fact.

Beginning the presentation, he said that he is in the last phase of his career and loves to see the support he gets from the fans.

In the game, MS Dhoni picked a quick catch off a delivery by Maheesh Theekshana to dismiss SRH captain Aiden Markram for run-a-ball 12. Mayank Agrawal, who came down the order, was stumped off a ball by Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni looked as quick as he has always been. Even on the last ball of the inning, he removed one glove and threw the ball at the stumps to runout Washington Sundar and not let SRH steal a bye run.

Ravindra Jadeja picked 3 wickets for 22 runs and apart from Abhishek Sharma’s 34 off 26, no SRH batter could make an impactful contribution. Chasing 135, Devon Conway scored 77 off 57 as CSK won the game with eight balls remaining.
