New Delhi: Karun Nair who last played for India 7 years ago vies for a comeback to the cricketing circles once again. Nair who last played for Karnataka more than a year back has been out of international cricket for quite some time. However, with the ongoing season Maharaja Trophy T20 league, Nair sees a comeback to international cricket.
Currently, Nair leads the Mysuru Warriors who ran out of gas agonisingly close to last year’s finals against Manish Pandey’s Hubli Tigers. Nair had an impressive campaign with the Warriors last time, topping the scoring charts with 532 runs from 12 innings at a strike rate of 162.89. This year the Warriors will look for a way to win the cup after last year’s heartbreak.
“They say a player peak at 30-31…”- Karun Nair
Karun Nair has been on the sidelines for quite some time, but no one can forget the remarkable triple century scored by him. A prodigal talent, Nair’s cricketing talents and prowess have been heavily overlooked with a lack of meaningful opportunities in the domestic as well as national circuits. Nair was not able to get meaningful opportunities in the IPL circuit as well.
The 32-year-old cricketer feels that he has a lot to give back to the game he cherished at one point in time. In a recent interview with the ESPNcricinfo, Nair said “They say a player peak at 30-31; I would like to believe that’s true in my case.” Furthermore, when asked about his domestic preparations, Nair replied “The last one year has been good…”
Karun’s performance in the domestic circuit has been noteworthy, to say the least. Playing for Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy of 23/24 Nair scored 690 runs for his team. Although Vidarbha lost the championship in the final, Nair’s much-awaited resurgence had started. On the other hand, Nair has notable contributions to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well as the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Nair has proven his worth with an impressive CV, now the job is on the selectors to draft him into the national team.
