Travis Head and Nahida Akter named ICC player of the month for November 2023

Head has been given the award after his scintillating performance in the ICC World Cup 2023.

New Delhi: ICC (International Cricket Council), has finally revealed the men’s and women’s cricketer of the month for November 2023.

The official announcement was made by ICC through their media release, after counting the total number of votes received by the players.

Head has received the award for the first time in his second nomination this year. His first nomination was due to his scintillating performance in the WTC final against India, but he failed to win the award that time.

On the other hand, young Bangladeshi bowler Nahida Akter received the award for her groundbreaking performance against Pakistani cricket, leading her team to a series win.

The Australian southpaw has enjoyed quite a handsome year in 2023, leading his team to two ICC trophies.

Head scored 163 runs in the first innings of the WTC 2023 finals, which helped Australia post a huge total of 469 runs, before the Aussie blowers wreaked havoc on the Indian batting line-up to defy them their first WTC title in their second successive finals, in appearance.

Head, who was initially not in the plans for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 due to his hand injury, was still added to the fray later on.

Head scored a century on his returning match, followed by two match winnings knocks in the semifinals and finals of the ICC World Cup 2023, leading his team to their sixth World Cup title, and himself to his first men’s cricketer of the month award.

After destroying the opposition batting order in her team’s hard-fought triumph over Pakistan in Mirpur last month, Nahida Akter also celebrates winning Player of the Month for the first time.

In the opening ODI match of the series, Akter used a steady period of pressure bowling to take three wickets for thirty runs. The spinner maintained the match close as Pakistan sought a meagre 82 runs to win, taking the wickets of Sidra Ameen, Bismah Maroof, and Aliya Riaz to put pressure on the foreign team.

Akter again impressed in the crucial third game after a more subdued second encounter. The tourists were reduced to 166 for nine in their fifty overs by Akter’s outstanding economical 10-over session, which yielded three wickets for 26 runs. This set the stage for Akter’s teammates to win the match and the series.

With an outstanding average of 14.14 across the three games, Akter’s seven-wicket haul earned her the title of Player of the Series.
