UEFA Euro 2024: Is Christiano Ronaldo the new “Thala!” of the football world?

A recent post from FIFA on Instagram has generated curiosity amongst the netizens as the apex body paid tribute to the legendary footballer.

New Delhi: A recent post from FIFA on Instagram has generated curiosity amongst the netizens. The post commemorated the contributions of Christiano Ronaldo and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in both their respective fields. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was India’s talismanic captain who has won three ICC events and is the most successful Indian captain to date- the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.

On the other hand, Christiano Ronaldo has been Portugal’s and the world’s leading goal scorer. He has been the go-to man whenever his side has been in trouble. Although the 39-year-old has not been able to lay his hands at the coveted FIFA World Cup. However, Ronaldo has been able to win both the UEFA Euro championship and the UEFA Nations League.

Ronaldo will be playing probably in the last euros in Germany this year. Under their talismanic captain, Portugal has won the first game against Czechia (2-1). Portugal will be aiming to win their second Euro title after clinching the trophy back in 2016. With the likes of talented players like Bernardo Silva of Manchester City and Bruno Fernandes, Diago Dalot from Manchester United alongside players like Rafael Leão. The question is can Portugal do it once again?
