New Delhi: Canada will take on Uruguay in the battle for 3rd place at the COPA America 2024. Both teams are coming after sustaining some heartbreaking losses in the quarterfinals. While debutants Canada lost to world champions Argentina, Uruguay was edged out by a resilient Colombian side.

The Canadian side under the leadership of Jesse Mersch has done a remarkable job in this year’s COPA America with the side progressing better than other CONCACAF sides Mexico and USA. Being debutants in the COPA America, the Canadian Reds resembled a lot of mental toughness against the top South American teams like Venezuela in the Quarters. However, facing Argentina in the COPA America semis meant only one result in the end. Nevertheless, Mersch is content with the team and is “optimistic about what the future can look like.” This COPA will also give the Reds a good headstart for their preparation ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

On the other hand, Uruguay’s head coach Bielsa had a bitter pill to swallow as he saw his side walk away with a defeat. In a game which turned out to be a potential final, Uruguay were unable to break the fortress of Colombia as they succumbed to a disastrous defeat.
