Veteran batter Sachin Tendulkar to lead Indian Legends in Road Safety World Series

Apart from Tendulkar, the tournament will feature the likes of Tillakaratne Dilshan, Shane Watson, Brian Lara and Ross Taylor.

New Delhi: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar will lead the Indian Legends in the upcoming Road Safety World Series Season 2. The organisers made an announcement on September 1 stating about Tendulkar’s captaincy. The 22-day tournament starts on September 10.

In this edition, New Zealand Legends is an addition to the number of teams while cricketing legends from Australia, Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh and England will join the tournament. The tournament will be held in a variety of venues in India, starting with Kanpur. Meanwhile, Raipur will host the two semifinals and the final, which will be held on October 1 and other venues will be Indore and Dehradun.

The tournament is backed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Information and Technology and Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. It is played to spread awareness regarding road safety and rules in India and across the globe. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari extended their support and said that they are hopeful that RSWS will bring in a social change.

Apart from Tendulkar, the tournament will feature the likes of Tillakaratne Dilshan, Shane Watson, Brian Lara and Ross Taylor. Retired cricketers from all across the globe will participate in the league to win it and spread awareness for a social cause.

Meanwhile, the tournament is also facing a backlash on the internet due to its link with the Kochi Tuskers Kerela franchise in the IPL. People are demanding the league be banned due to the corruption involved. The franchise was not able to pay the fees of some of the players and thus was banned from IPL.
