New Delhi: Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag is known for his witty replies off the field. Recently, he got a chance to show his quirky humour as he came up with a tweet referring to Ashish Nehra as a candidate in the UK Prime Minister elections. Sehwag came up with this joke while replying to Pakistani political commentator Zaid Hamid.
The incident happened when Hamid while congratulating javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem for his achievement in the Commonwealth Games 2022, mistook cricketer Ashish Nehra for Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra. He wrote, “And what makes this victory, even more, sweeter is the fact that this Pakistani athlete has destroyed Indian javelin throw hero Ashish nehra…… In the last competition Ashish had defeated Arshad Nadeem… What a sweet revenge come back.”

Replying to Hamid’s mistake, Virender Sehwag wrote, “Chicha, Ashish Nehra is right now preparing for UK Prime Minister Elections. So Chill.” The cricketer shared a screenshot of Hamid’s tweet as his Twitter profile has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem crossed the 90 m mark in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games and also won the gold medal against the likes of Anderson Peters. However, Neeraj Chopra could not participate in the event due to an injury. Chopra and Nadeem are known for their friendship off the field and the Indian athlete congratulated Nadeem for his achievement. Arshad also wished Neeraj a speedy recovery and said that he missed him in Birmingham.
