Watch: Rohit Sharma and Daryl Mitchell embroil in a Heated Controversy on Day 1 of 3rd Test at Mumbai!

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell were involved in a nasty exchange of words before lunch on Day 1 of the ongoing third test.

New Delhi: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell were involved in a nasty exchange of words before lunch on Day 1 of the ongoing third test.

Daryl Mitchell was not happy with the chatter among the Indian players during the proceedings. The incident took place on the fourth ball of the 26th over when India tightened the field by bringing in an extra infielder to ramp up the pressure on Mitchell.

Adding to the intensity, chatter from behind the stumps, whether it be Rishabh Pant, Rohit Sharma, or Sarfaraz under the helmet, disturbed the New Zealander at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

What was the controversy?

Tensions between Daryl Mitchell and the Indian team flared up after the constant nudging from Sarfaraz Khan. The Indian team was able to get under the skin of Mitchell who was able to thwart the challenge of Indian spinners after a solid defensive display. There were many hit-and-miss chances during the time Mitchell stayed at the crease.

Naturally, Mitchell was feeling the heat, even going so far as to voice his frustrations to the square leg umpire about the distracting behaviour from the Indian camp. Subsequently,  in a bid to diffuse the situation, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma approached Daryl Mitchell for a chat, but it turned into a heated debate.

It was quite visible that this verbal sparring was not going to stop from the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team, given the captain’s body language.
