“…We didn’t play our best cricket…” Rohit Sharma does not minces his words following the Mumbai test loss

The India team skipper did not mince his words while referring to the horrendous batting display from the side as the team went down in an unbearable 3-0 loss.

New Delhi: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was visibly angry following the disastrous series loss against New Zealand. The India team skipper did not mince his words while referring to the horrendous batting display from the side as the team went down in an unbearable 3-0 loss.

After being completely outplayed by the Kiwis in the first two Tests, India looked to have done enough in the Wankhede encounter, but the batters hit self-destruct yet again. Barring Rishabh Pant, no other Indian batter managed to withstand the pressure created by the Kiwi spinners. After the match, India captain Rohit Sharma also admitted that his team failed to fire collectively.

Yeah, absolutely, you know, losing a series, losing a Test is never easy, it’s something that’s not easily digestible. Again, we didn’t play our best cricket, we know and we have to accept. They (New Zealand) did so much better than us. We made a lot of mistakes and we’ll have to accept it. We didn’t put enough runs on the board in the 1st innings (in Bengaluru and Pune) and we were behind in the game, here, we got a 30-run lead, we thought we were ahead, the target was achievable as well, we had to do better though….

How can India qualify for the WTC 2023/25?

India’s horrendous New Zealand is a thing of the past and the Men in Blue would like to dismiss that unfortunate and shocking result while concentrating on their next assignment i.e. the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024.

India will have to regroup quickly and get ready for the BGT series. In the 5 matches that remain for them in the current WTC cycle, India will need to win 4 and draw 1 of the Tests to make it to the final in Lord’s without depending on other results.

For Australia, who sit at the top of the tree at the moment, they need 5 wins out of their remaining 7 matches to reach the final without depending on others. Sri Lanka, New Zealand and South Africa, who have 4,3 and 4 matches remaining in the current cycle will have to win all their matches to make it.

India will begin their Australia tour in Perth on November 22 and could be without their skipper Rohit Sharma, who is awaiting the birth of his second child.
