Team India has scripted history as they smashed multiple records to ensure a thumping win over the Proteas at Centurion.

New Delhi: Team India has scripted history as they smashed multiple records to ensure a thumping win over the Proteas at Centurion. Tilak Varma scored his maiden century while Abhishek Sharma came back to form in style as he notched up his half-century after the Zimbabwe series.

Records break one after another at Centurion:

1. Most sixes in T20Is:

India became the first team in T20 history to hit 200 sixes in a calendar year, having done so in 2024, courtesy of the Indian batters’ power-hitting.

2. Most 200+ scores in T20s:

Team India has now notched up eight totals of 200 or more in 2024, making it a record. They eclipse their record of seven from 2023, a joint record alongside the Birmingham Bears (2022) and the Japan national cricket team (2024).

3. Second team to win 100 T20Is away:

India has followed in Pakistan’s footsteps by becoming the second team to reach 100 T20I wins away from home. Overall, India has won 164 T20Is.

4. Five individual centuries in a year:

Tilak Varma’s hundred was India’s fifth individual century of 2024, making them the first team to notch up five centuries in a calendar year twice. Team India repeated the feat back in 2023 and then again in 2024. Previously, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had also achieved this, in 2016.

Arshdeep Singh surpasses Bumrah in the wickets column

Arshdeep Singh who has been sidelined from the red ball team of India seems to hit his groove in the white ball in the ongoing T20I series against South Africa. Recently, the left-arm seamer became the second-highest wicket-taker in the T20Is surpassing Jasprit Bumrah.

In T20Is, Arshdeep has picked up 92 wickets from 59 innings at an economy rate of 8.34 and an average of 18.47. The India pacer is now four wickets short of leapfrogging Yuzvendra Chahal and becoming India’s top wicketer in the shortest format. In the third T20I match of the series, Arshdeep Singh even surpassed Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
