Who is Yusuf Dikec? The Turkish Shooter became and overnight Internet Personality on Social Media

Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec became an overnight internet sensation after the 51-year-old marksman won silver medal in the mixed team event of the Paris Olympics with minimum shooting gear.

New Delhi: Shooting has found a sweet spot with the Indian shooting fans as Manu Bhaker delivered back-to-back medals for India. Subsequently, shooting found an overall popularity in the subcontinent. But what followed in the mixed-team event was way beyond the imagination of first-time viewers of the sport.

Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec and his mixed doubles partner Sevval Ilyada Tarhan clinched the silver medal at the Mixed 10m Air Pistol event. But what triggered media and fan speculation was that Yusuf Dikec entered the tournament nonchalantly and won the silver medal without even adequate shooting gear!

Who is Yusuf Dikec?

Traditionally, shooting has been a sport which requires heavy gear, jackets, protective equipment and aiming equipment. However, when Yusuf Dikec turned on the shooting range, the 51-year-old marksman seemed to forget to bring all these with him. The only thing that he brought with him was a regular piece of glasses and some minimalistic ear protection.

Subsequently, with one hand in his pocket, the Turkish shooter hit one after another bullseye to win the silver medal. Dikec, aged 51 years old started his Olympics journey a long time back in 2008. It was the fifth participation for the Turkish shooter as he won his first Olympic medal most comfortably out there.
