Women’s Premier League: BCCI releases names of 409 players listed for auction, check full list here

New Delhi: BCCI has released the list of players listed in the auctions for the inaugural Women’s Premier League. A total of 409 cricketers have been listed to be bought by five franchises on February 13. BCCI, in a statement, said that a total of 1525 players registered for the auction but the final list was reduced to 409.

The list includes 246 Indians and 163 overseas players, out of which eight are from associate nations. The auction will have a fine ratio of capped and uncapped players. There are 202 capped players listed along with 199 uncapped. There are only 90 slots to be filled by the five teams with every franchise taking a number between 15 to 18. The total number of slots for overseas players is 30.

The highest base price of a player is set to Rs 50 lakh and 24 players, including the likes of Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry and others, have been listed under this bracket. 30 players are listed with a base price of Rs 40 lakh, while the minimum base price goes down to Rs 10 lakh.

The auction will be held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on February 13, starting at 2:30 pm IST.

The tournament will begin just eight days after the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, on March 4 and will go on till March 26 with 22 matches being played in total. Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium and D.Y. Patil Stadium will be the two venues for the WPL 2023.

With becoming the biggest women’s cricket league in terms of money, WPL is currently at the centre of attraction in the cricket world and is set to bring more audience to the game.
