Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup Finals: India lifts the cup after dominating victory over England

New Delhi: India continued their dominant performance in the Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup. Women in blue restricted England to 68 with great bowling and fielding while Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha anchored the chase. Titas Sadhu and Archani Devi starred in the finals as India lifted the inaugural Women’s U-19 World Cup.

Indian bowlers did not give a chance to the English batter and got them all out for just 68 runs. Women in blue have wrapped up teams on low scores and they continued their sharp bowling and fielding in the finals. Titas Sadhu and Archana Devi began the bowling and struck early. Sadhu dismissed Liberty Heap in the first over and with the wicket of Seren Smale, she ended her spell with the figures of 4-0-6-2.

Archana was clinical in the fourth over to pick up two wickets as G Trisha’s stunner at long off helped her dismiss English captain Grace Scrivens. Ryana McDonald-Gay, who was dropped by Richa Ghosh behind the stumps, began some counter-attack but was restricted to 19(24) by a one-handed stunner by Archana Devi.

The woman with the golden arm, Parshavi Chopra picked two wickets while Mannat Kashyap and Sonam Yadav ended the affairs with a wicket each. Captain Shafali Verma also managed to dismiss Hanna Baker with her off-break as India got an easy target to lift the cup.

With the bat, Shafali started with a bang as she scored 15 off 11 and hit the first six of the finals before England managed to dismiss both the openers. Soumya Tiwari led the inning with a few boundaries here and there while Trisha stood her ground. It was in the 12th over that Trisha started the attack with two consecutive boundaries.

Giving an anti-climatic end, Stonehouse dismissed Trisha for 24 off 29 while Tiwari with her 24* off 37 led India to victory.

Shweta Sehrawat ended as the highest run-getter of the tournament, scoring 297 runs at an average of 99 and with a strike rate of 139. Meanwhile, Australia’s Maggie Clark was the highest wicket-taker with 12 scalps in five games.
