‘Working hard to touch 90m…’: Neeraj Chopra talks about upcoming events, training & cheat days with English media

Following his stand last year, he said that the 90m is looked upon as a benchmark and associated with greatness, but it does not bother him.

New Delhi: Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra revealed his plans for 2023 in a virtual interview with the English media while he stated that he is confident to cross the 90m mark this year. Neeraj is currently training in England and is preparing for upcoming events including the World Championships and the Diamond League, where last year he won a silver medal and the diamond trophy respectively.

Talking to the media, he said that he is focusing on the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, the Asian Games in China and the Diamond League. On breaching the 90 m mark, he said that he is working hard to achieve it. The javelin thrower added that he could have touched the mark last year when he threw 89.09m in Luassane and 89.94m in Stockholm, it was just a matter of landing his foot a few meters ahead as it is a game of small margins.

Talking about the Paris Olympics 2024, said that it is a crucial year to prepare for the next Olympic games and added that he is working with his coach Klaus Bartonietz to improve his strength, speed and flexibility.

About cheat days, he said that he enjoys meals in India and in the UK he takes ice cream or visits an Indian restaurant on cheat days. He also said that he watched the FIFA World Cup finals and was rooting for Lionel Messi, Neeraj added that he is planning to go and watch a Premiere League game soon.
