World Athletics Championships Day 8: Annu Rani finishes 7th in Women’s Javelin Throw finals, McLaughlin breaks world record

Rani threw her best throw of the finals which went to a distance of 61.12 m.

New Delhi: Annu Rani was playing her second Javelin Throw finals at the World Championships, where she threw the javelin at a distance of 61.12 m to finish seventh. Coincidently, she had the best throw of 61.12 m in the last World Championships in Doha, where she stood eighth in the finals. On the other hand, USA’s Sydney McLaughlin broke her own world record in the Women’s 400 m Hurdles.

Annu Rani, the last thrower on the start list, began with an attempt of 56.18 m and after the first attempt, Australia’s Mackenzie Little was leading with 63.22 m. In the second attempt, Rani threw her best throw of the finals which went to a distance of 61.12 m. On the other hand, in her second attempt, Mackenzie Little threw the javelin just at a distance of 49.78 m.

In the third attempt, it was the defending champion Kelsey-Lee Barber who took the lead with a massive throw of 66.91 m. Barber’s third attempt got her the gold medal, while USA’s Kara Winger won the silver with 64.05 m and Japan’s Karuka Hitaguchi got the silver with an attempt of 63.27 m.

Women’s 400 m Hurdles (Finals)

In the finals, USA’s Sydney McLaughlin broke her own world record, by running the distance in 50.68 seconds. Her previous record also came in this season which stood at 51.41 seconds. She was, obviously, handed the gold medal for her phenomenal performance.

Netherland’s Femke Bol equalled her season’s best time of 52.27 seconds and won the silver medal, while USA’s Dalilah Muhammad won the bronze with her season-best time of 53.13 seconds.

Men’s 400 m (Finals)

After 100 m and 200 m, this was the last short-distance running final at the World Championships. All three medals in 100 m and 200 m were won by the USA, and the hosts showed their dominance in 400 m as well. USA’s Michael Norman ran the distance in 44.29 seconds to win the gold medal.

Grenada’s Kirani James won the silver as he clocked 44.48 seconds, while Great Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith clocked 44.66 seconds to take home the bronze medal.

Women’s 400 m (Finals)

Shaunae Miller-Uibo gave this season’s best performance to win the gold medal. She covered the lap in 49.11 seconds. Dominican Republic’s Marileidy Paulino got the silver with a timing of 49.60 seconds. The bronze medal was won by Barbados’ Sada Williams as she made a new national record with 49.75  seconds.
