Wrestlers were angry at the fact that, after months of delay in the election, one of Brij Bhuasan Singh’s close allies, Sanjay Singh, was appointed as the new WFI chief.

As soon as the election results were announced, wrestlers got vocal, as the only female Indian wrestler to win an Olympic Medal, Sakshi Malik, decided to quit the sport, calling the election results unjust, followed by Bjaranj Punia’s decision to return his Padma Shri award.

However, what effects will Vinesh Phogat’s decision will bear, only time will tell.
