New Delhi: In-form batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has been included as a stand-by player in the India squad for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final as he replaces Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gaikwad is to get married on June 3 and is set to miss the chance to be a part of the WTC final. Jaiswal is set to fly to London in the coming days and join the team for training sessions.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023, has been a great form, scoring 625 runs in 14 innings, including five fifties and a century. He has had a brilliant Ranji Trophy season as he scored 315 runs in five games, averaging 45, with one fifty and a century. He scored 213 and 144 in the two innings of the Irani Trophy for the Rest of India against Madhya Pradesh, making him the highest run-scorer of the tournament ever.
Jaiswal is yet to make his debut for India but has been knocking on the doors with his form. He has 1845 runs in 26 First Class innings averaging 80.21, scoring nine tons and two fifties, which hints at his conversion rate.
India will face Australia in the finals of WTC starting on June 7 at The Oval in London. Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team in the one-off match.
Team India will be missing some regulars in the Test side in Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah. Recently, Ajinkya Rahane replaced KL Rahul in the squad and is likely to be a part of the playing XI. Meanwhile, along with Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar, and Suryakumar Yadav are also included as stand-by players.
