New Delhi: Trolled for his price tag of 5 crore, left-arm pacer Yash Dayal has proved why he deserves his place in the RCB side. In a game that went right down to the wire, Dayal kept his cool to defend 16 runs in the last over that saw his side through to the playoffs. Even captain Faf du Plessis also understood the immense pressure under which the left-arm seamer delivered. Faf even dedicated his Player of the Match to Yash for the miraculous last over.
Interestingly, Dayal revealed that he was not supposed to bowl the 20th over given the fact that CSK’s most experienced duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni were in the middle. Moreover, the experience against Rinku Singh where the latter faced the infamous 5-sixes episode was also wearing heavily on the same.

“After what happened to me last time [against KKR in 2023], there was nervousness,” the left-arm seamer remarked post-match. “When I got hit off that first ball, I subconsciously went back to that place. But I have done well in the past, I have done well after that, so all that was running through my mind was to deliver a good ball. I didn’t want to look at the scoreboard or the result. I just wanted to bowl well. I was confident with my execution.”

“I was supposed to bowl the second last over,” he said. “Suddenly DK [Dinesh Karthik] bhaiya and Faf talked to each other, and it was decided that Lockie [Ferguson] bowls the 19th and me the last. I was fine with anything.”

Although Yash Dayal has turned out to be the saviour of RCB, Dayal was on the receiving end when he joined the side. “When I was picked in RCB. I faced a lot of criticism and questioning in my place in the team. My mindset was only, I didn’t want to prove people wrong, I just had to prove myself.” “RCB told from day 1 that I’m an important player for them. They’ve backed me to the core, the results you’re seeing now are due to their backing and trusting on me.”

The southpaw has so far put every criticism under the carpet as he put out a standout performance against CSK. Naturally, against RR the entire team will be sweating for the repeat of such performance against Rajasthan once again.
