New Delhi: The Asian Games gold medalist team, India, will be going up against the mighty English side of the skipper Heather Knight, on Wednesday in the first match of the three-match T20I series.

The world number 4 team, India, will be locking horns against the world number 2, England, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The Indian team will be filled with confidence after winning the gold medal at the Asian Games 2023, while the English team will be looking to regain their form after going down 1-2 against the Sri Lankan women’s team in the three-match T20i series at home.

The women in blue will be hoping for their captain, Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana, along with Shefali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues, to neutralise the threat of Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Bell and Nat Sciver-Brunt with the bat.

Meanwhile, in the bowling department, Deepti Sharma, Titas Sadhu and Renuka Singh will have the tall task of stopping Heather Knight, Amy Jones and Danielle Wyatt from going big in the series.

The match on Wednesday will be the first match of the England team’s Indian tour, where they are scheduled to play three T20Is and one test match, in the 12-day-long tour.

Head-to-head records

When it comes to the head-to-head, records of the two teams in T20Is, the women in blue are at a severe disadvantage against the mighty English side.

Indian women’s team and England women’s teams have so far played 27 T20I matches against each other, in which the English side has managed to win 20 matches while the women in blue has only managed to emerge victorious on seven instances.

This will be good practice for both teams, with the T20I World Cup, scheduled to take place next year.

When and where to watch

The Indian women vs England women series will be live telecasted on Sports 18 networks, while the live streaming will be done through the Jio Cinema and FanCode app.
