The space drama released on 15 August, alongside John Abraham's 'Batla House', and Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'. However, 'Mission Mangal' appealed to the masses and opened to a staggering Rs. 29.16 crores on its opening day, making it Akshay's highest opener till date.
Akshay has a career spanning over 25 years and has been a part of more than a hundred Hindi films. The actor was last seen in 'Mission Mangal'.
'Mission Mangal' is continuing its winning streak at the box-office! The multi-starrer flick has surpassed the Rs. 175 crore mark in just 14 days of its run.
The thriller drama is inspired by the real Batla House encounter that took place almost a decade ago on September 19, 2008, officially known as Operation Batla House. The 'Romeo Akbar Walter' actor is portraying the role of Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, who spearheaded the encounter.
With its multi-star cast, the film is set to cruise past Akshay's bumper openers 2.O and Kesari which earned Rs 95 crores and Rs 78.07 respectively at the weekend box office. Film critic and Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the numbers on his Twitter handle.
The film easily surpassed the opening day collections of 'Batla House' which released on the same date. The John Abraham-starrer managed to collect Rs. 14.59 crore at the ticket counters.
Taran noted that 'Mission Mangal' witnessed a fantabulous start at the box office and Independence Day holiday gave the film an additional boost. He also shared that the space drama has emerged as Akshay's biggest opener till date.
