New Delhi: It came as a bodyblow for a crypto trader who lost his big fortune amounting to $6,50,000 (Rs 4.97 crore) from cryptocurrency trading, all in one ago. All it took was just 2 seconds time in losing his crypto fortune. And, the reason behind is hacking of his iPhone’s iCloud account by the scammers.
Crypto trader Domenic Lacovone took to social media to share the modus operandi of scamsters and how he got duped him with their clever tactics. It all began with a phone call that he thought was from Apple and before he could judge the deceiver, his wealth was gone.
The scammers used his iPhone iClout exploit to fake the caller ID on their victim’s iPhone and once he got fooled, they got access to all of his MetaMusk wallet, loaded with crypto coins & NFTs.

Shedding light on the scam, Domenic Lacovone said that it all began with a phone call, which he could have forgotten & never called back.
He revealed that he received a call which he missed but since the number flashed on his iPhone as ‘Apple’, he decided to call back.

“This is how it happened, Got a phone call from apple, literally from apple (on my caller Id). Called it back because I suspected fraud and it was an apple number. So I believed them,” Lacovone said in a tweet.
“They asked for a code that was sent to my phone and 2 seconds later my entire MetaMask was wiped,” he added.
The caller, on the other side, asked him to share the code that he received on his phone. He shared it with the caller and within seconds, his big fortune of crypto wealth was gone.
He used to keep all his valuable digital currencies & non-fungible tokens (NTFs) in a digital wallet App MetaMask.

The hackers used an iCloud hack to trace his digital assets in the wallet. The ‘seed phrase’ which he shared with the hackers turned out to be his biggest mistake. He didn’t know that 12-digit code would give hackers, an access to the iCloud of his iPhone. As soon as scammers got access to his iCloud, they swiped it and emptied his account in a matter of seconds.
