Google Pay, the UPI app announces new Vouchers and UPI Circle at Global Fintech Fest 2024

Popular online transaction Google Pay has announced new features at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2024 which will make it easier for users to make payments and transact through the app.

New Delhi: Popular online transaction Google Pay has announced new features at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2024. The company has said that these features will make it easier for users to make payments and transact through the app. Some of the popular features announced were Digital payments, UPI vouchers/eRupi, Bill payments etc. The features were announced by Google in a recent blog post. These features are anticipated to give a competitive edge over other platforms like PhonePe and Amazon Pay etc.

What are the new features?

1. Delegate Payments a.k.a UPI Circle

The first feature announced by Google is the function of delegate payments which allows trusted people without the need to link their bank account with their GPay account. Many a time it has been seen that people are hesitant to use the online mode of transaction due to a variety of reasons including limited access to bank servers. The ‘delegate payments’ is further divided into two categories:

a) Partial Delegation: The users can retain full control of each payment that comes from their trusted secondary user.

b) Full Delegation: A monthly limit of Rs 15,000 is set within which the secondary users can transact seamlessly.

2. Introducing UPI vouchers

Google Pay is set to incorporate the UPI vouchers which is a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) feature launched in 2021. This feature will be launched in collaboration with the NPCI and the Department of Financial Services.

3. Clickpay QR Scan

Google has partnered with NPCI Bharat Billpay and is set to launch the Clickpay QR Scanner for seamless payment of bills. Through this feature, users can pay their bills using the existing scanner. Once scanned, the users will be able to see the bill as well as the total amount. Meanwhile, the biller can generate customised QR codes at the point of sale, email, physical or other digital surfaces.

4. Prepaid Utility payment

Google Pay is also introducing Prepaid utilities to its list of supported recurring payment categories. This feature is also coming in partnership with NPCI Bharat Billpay. The feature allows users to discover their prepaid utility providers or aggregators, link their energy accounts and pay seamlessly using UPI.

5. Tap and Pay

Google is also looking to turn its online transaction feature into a whole new system. Due to that, the company has tied up with NPCI and enabled the ‘Tap and Pay’ option for the RuPay cardholders. RuPay users can now add their cards to the GPay and use the Tap and Pay feature using their NFC-enabled smartphones.

6. Autopay feature for UPI Lite

UPI Lite, the online wallet of GPay is getting the autopay feature in the recent set of new features which are set to come up. Through this, users can recharge their wallet automatically when the wallet amount falls below a certain amount.
