
New Delhi: Google is celebrating the 171st birthday of Angelo Moriondo. Angelo was an inventor and is known as the godfather of espresso machines. Google made a doodle showing coffee being prepared using espresso machines.
The Google doodle on June 6, which has been created by Olivia When is coloured in coffee and features a GIF of the first known espresso machine. Angelo Moriondo was born on June 6, 1851, in Turin, Italy. Moriondo’s grandfather founded a liquor production company which was later managed by his father. Moriondo also built the famous chocolate company, “Moriondo and Gariglio” with his brother and cousin.
“Once upon a time, in 19th century Italy, coffee was the hottest item around. Unfortunately, brewing methods required customers to wait over five minutes to get their drink. Enter Angelo Moriondo, the man who patented the first known espresso machine,” Google’s note said. This note from Google talks about the inconvenience caused to the consumers as the coffee brewing took a long time. Google also tweeted, “Monday morning coffee >>>> Start off the week strong with today’s #GoogleDoodle celebrating the birthday of Angelo Moriondo, the Italian inventor who patented the world’s first known espresso machine.”
Google also tweeted the behind-the-scenes of the doodle by Olivia When.

After being registered in Paris on October 23, 1885, the espresso machine was confirmed by an international patent. The invention also won a bronze medal at the General Expo of Turin in 1884.
