National Conference on Data Protection to deliberate on DPDP challenges, noted experts to share views

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 is India’s first law to protect personal data. There has been a long-standing demand for it from several quarters.

New Delhi: The passage of new Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act marks a big step towards security of personal data during digital & online transactions.

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 is India’s first law to protect personal data. There has been a long-standing demand for it from several quarters. However, some reports suggest that the Act has certain ‘loopholes’ and doesn’t ascertain individual privacy to full extent.

According to a leading business portal, several firms are readying proposals & presentations to this effect. They have also sought clarification from the government on new Data Act and demanded an extension on its implementation.

Notably, the passage of Act has come after several drafts, made over the years. A couple of experts have voiced two main concerns – ‘lack of individual privacy’ and ‘inadequate accountability on entities that misuse individuals’ data’.

The DPDP Act is a remarkable step forward but it also raises legal and policy challenges. To address these challenges, Cyberlaws.net and Pavan Duggal Associates have organized National Conference on Data Protection on September 28, 2023 from 9.00 am – 12.30 pm IST.

The conference theme is “Data Protection For Companies, Boards And CXOs – What You Must Know”. It will cover:

• Legal processes and approaches under the DPDP Act, 2023
