New Delhi: The much speculated 5G services in India will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at an event scheduled to be held on October 1, as informed by National Broadband Mission on Saturday.

“Taking India’s digital transformation & connectivity to new heights, Hon’ble PM, @narendramodi, will roll out 5G services in India; at India Mobile Congress; Asia’s largest technology exhibition”, the government body wrote in its tweet.

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) jointly conduct the India Mobile Congress (IMC), which claims to be the biggest telecom, media, and technology forum in the Asian continent.

Earlier, the Union Minister for Information Technology, Communications, and Electronics, Ashwini Vaishnaw had said that the government has given a target of 80 per cent coverage of 5G telecom services in the country in the short timeframe.

“The journey of 5G is going to be very exciting and noted that many countries took multiple years to reach 40 per cent to 50 per cent coverage. But we are targeting a very aggressive timeline and the Government has given a target of 80 per cent coverage in a short time frame and we should definitely cover at least 80 per cent in a very short timeframe”, Vaishnaw stated last week.
