New Delhi: The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which were introduced at Apple’s Wanderlust event on September 12, have a new Action button in lieu of the standard Ring/Silent button, which has been present on every iPhone since the device’s inception in 2007.
What is it?
Since the iPhone’s inception in 2007, Apple has featured a button on the side of the device that toggles between ring and vibrate. This switch was replaced by the Action Button, which is why it is so important.

How does it work?
The ring/silent button has been replaced by an Action Button, which can be set to perform a variety of functions. These include activating the camera, turning on the flashlight, beginning a Voice Memo, beginning to translate, beginning to open a note, beginning to switch Focus modes, and beginning to run your own custom shortcuts. Magnifier and other similar accessibility settings are also up for grabs.
The Action button’s default functionality remains as a volume control. The gadget can be muted with a single push and unmuted in a second.
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to replace the Mute Switch with an Action Button that could be programmed with some of the following actions:
– Silent mode on/off
– Turn flashlight on/off
– Run a shortcut
– Start Voice Memo
– Accessibility

Apple’s new Action button, included on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, expands the functionality of the device’s physical buttons. Users can apply custom actions to the button, which will then be accompanied by haptic feedback and relevant data shown on Dynamic Island.
The most customization possibilities are found in the shortcuts and accessibility settings. Users can gain access to an almost infinite number of iPhone functions by assigning any available Shortcut or Accessibility setting to the Action button.
For instance, the Action button can be hidden from third-party applications. The apps and programmes can be launched with a single Shortcut, and some applications even have dedicated Shortcuts for accessing often-used features.
