New Delhi: The first day of Diwali or Deepawali is celebrated in the form of ‘Dhanteras’. On this day people clean their homes, purchases Diwali items and make sweets.
Dhanteras is also known as Dhantrayodashi and Dhanvantri Jayanti. Dhanteras is also celebrated as the day when ‘Amrit Kalash’ was discovered by the Father of Ayurveda, God Dhanvantri by churning the sea.
It falls on the 13th day of the Kartik month. This day is also known as ‘Udayvyapini Trayodashi.’
Dhanteras is is considered as one of the lucky day to buy gold or new kitchen items.
Diwali, the festival of lights begins on Dhanteras and ends on Bhaiya Dooj.
This year Dhanteras will be celebrated on Tuesday, 2 November.
