New Delhi: Dhanteras also known as Dhantrayodashi is the first day of five days long Diwali festivities will be celebrated on October 22 and also on 23rd in some parts of the country.
It is said that on Dhanteras day, Goddess Lakshmi had came out of the ocean during the churning of the Milky Sea.
On the auspicious day of Trayodashi, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera who is the God of wealth is worshipped.
Meanwhile, Lakshmi Puja on Amavasya after two days of Dhantrayodashi is considered more significant.
It is said that Lakshmi Puja on Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi must be performed during Pradosh Kaal which starts after sunset and lasts for 2 hours and 24 minutes.
According to several panchang and belives it is said that the best time to perfom Lakshmi Puja on Dhanteras is during Pradosh Kaal when Sthir Lagna prevails.

1. Gold/Silver Jewellery:
As Dhanteras in itself mean wealth, so on this day it is belived that buying jewellery made up of gold and silver as it is a representation of wealth and success. Gold and silver is also a long-term asset on whic an individual can rely upon on good and bad day. Buying gold and silver is an investment. People basically make purchases of gold and silver jewellery on Dhanteras and Diwali day.
2. Gold and silver coins
Buying coins made up of gold and silver is said to be auspicious. On this day people buy Gold and silver coins with a picture of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi on it. On this day, the demands of coins are high.
3. Utensils
Buying utensiles on Dhanteras is said to be auspicious. On this day, people buy utensils made up of brass, copper, silver, or even clay kitchen utensils and uses them to make the Prasad first. Buying broom on this day is believed to be auspicious and lucky. Purchasing broom for the home is said to remove poverty from the home on a good day and is said to impove family’s financial concerns.
7. Gomti chakra
People of Hindu commuinty treat Gomi Chakra as sacred. They are placed in the house temple near the idol of Goddess Lakshmi. It is said that one must keep the Gomi Chakra at home as it keeps the evil eye away.
