The longest partial lunar eclipse of this century will be seen on November 19 and will be noticed from the parts of Northeast India. This is the longest lunar eclipse that will be witnessed in 580 years. Last, this lunar eclipse happened on February 18, 1440.

Will Lunar Eclipse be visible in India?

At around 2:34 PM 97% of the moon will be covered by the Earth’s shadow and from India, it will be visible. According to the Director of Research and Academic at MP Birla Planetarium Debiprosad Duari, the rare phenomenon will be visible in places like Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. “A few areas in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam will experience the last fleeting moments of the partial eclipse just after the moonrise, very close to the eastern horizon,” he explained.

Besides, a penumbral lunar eclipse takes place when the Moon comes through the faint penumbral portion of Earth’s shadow.

The longest lunar eclipse will be visible from North America, South America, eastern Asia, Australia, and the Pacific region.

The moon will appear to be blood-red in colour as the red beams of the Sun will pass through the Earth’s atmosphere getting least deflected will fall on the Moon.
