Solar Eclipse: Where to watch Surya Grahan in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai & Kolkata

Space enthusiasts are geared up to capture the Surya Grahan in the lens and thus making a beeline for places where it will be partially visible.

New Delhi: Marking the last solar eclipse of the year 2022, the Surya Grahan will occur on October 25 and will be visible across the world. The Solar eclipse will happen just a day after Diwali and will be visible in many parts of the globe, mostly in Europe, Western Asia & North-east Africa.

In India, the solar eclipse will be largely partially visible as it will happen just before sunset. Though it will last for an hour, it will be visible from select cities including the Metropolitan ones.

Where to watch SURYA GRAHAN in India

Space enthusiasts are geared up to capture the Surya Grahan in the lens and thus making a beeline for places where it will be partially visible. Cities that will experience Surya Grahan include New Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Ujjain, Varanasi and Mathura.

Surya Grahan Timings in Metro Cities

Though Surya Grahan will begin at a uniform time, its visibility will differ in various cities depending on their locations. Delhi will be the first to register Surya Grahan while Chennai will be the last.

• Delhi: Solar eclipse will begin at 4:29 PM
• Mumbai: Surya Grahan will begin at 4:49 PM
Kolkata: Solar eclipse to begin at 4.52 PM
Chennai will see solar eclipse beginning at 5:14 PM

The Surya Grahan will last for about 1.13 hour and 1.19 hours for Delhi & Mumbai respectively. However, other metros like Kolkata & Chennai will have a solar eclipse time of about 31 & 21 minutes.

Regions which won’t see Solar Eclipse

Those living in remote locations towards South & North East won’t be able to see Surya Grahan. It wouldn’t be visible from Andaman & Nicobar Islands and also many parts of North-East India.

What NOT to do during Surya Grahan

It is believed and scientists concur too that Eclipsed Sun must not be watched with naked eye as it may cause permanent damage to the eyes and may also result in blindness. For watching Solar eclipse, scientists often take use of telescopes & filters for safety of the eyes.

The country will see next solar eclipse, after 5 years now. Scheduled on August 2, 2027, it will be a complete solar eclipse & the whole country would be able to watch it from any location.
