New Delhi: Vishwakarma Jayanti or Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated every year on the day of Kanya Sankranti. This day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Vishwakarma.
In the eastern states of India, this day is celebrated on the last day of Bengali Bhadra month.
This year, Vishwakarma Puja will be celebrated on September 17 ( Saturday).
Who is Vishwakarma?
According to the Hindu mythology, Vishwakarma or Vishwakarman God is believed as the God of ‘creation.’ It is believed that he is the ultimate creator, the divine architect of the universe and has created many palaces for Gods in all four yugas (aeons of Hindu mythology).
It is also believed that he is the creator of Ravana’s gold palace called Lanka. It is also said that he had designed and created Lord Krishna’s gold city called Dwarka, which is now believed to have gone immersed in the sea.
How is this day celebrated?
On this day, Architects, Engineers, craftsmen along with other professionals worship their tools to mark and celebrate this day.
It is also believed that those who respect, worship their tools and remain true to their work are blessed by Lord Vishwakarma.
On this day, Smiths, industrial workers mechanics, welders and craftsmen don’t use their tools for the day and offer prayers and pray for their success.
