50% of eligible population vaccinated with 1st dose of vaccine: India achieves major milestone

In August, the Health Ministry really accelerated the vaccination drive and has been inoculating a population of 60-70 lakh on daily basis. Health Minister also promised an additional 2 crore vaccine jabs.

New Delhi: In a major milestone in the country’s vaccination drive, India has managed to inoculate 50% of its eligible population for the 1st dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya took to Twitter to make the big announcement.

“India achieves unprecedented milestone! 50% of eligible population inoculated with the first dose of Covid-19 vaccines,” Health Minister tweeted.

The unprecedented achievement assumes huge significance as many parts of the world including US are still battling the pandemic. In India, experts have already warned of imminent third wave, with ominous predictions of peak in September-October and the deadly virus also affecting children.

In August, the Health Ministry really accelerated the vaccination drive and has been inoculating a population of 60-70 lakh on daily basis. Doctors and Paramedics have been working overtime to administer vaccine jabs while vaccine transport & storage facilities have also been augmented.

This month alone, the Health Minister has promised to supply 2 crore additional vaccine doses apart from regular supply. While promising additona supply, he also urged state governments to vaccinate all teachers before September 5, which is celebrated as Teachers Day.

India faces a momentous task of immunising its billion plus population to avert threats of possible third & more Covid-19 waves but the speed and efficacy with it has run the inoculation drive has garnered world’s attention. Recently, India completed a record mark of 60 crore, out of which 13 crore people have been fully vaccinated.
