New Delhi: A good news has come amid the spectre of Coronavirus. An interesting way to eradicate the virus has come to notice from an Italian city. Bergamo city in Italy is one of the hardest-hit regions by the coronavirus. The first case of COVID-19 was reported here in February after that city was put under strict lockdown.
But now it seems that the city is on the path to so-called “herd immunity” after more than half of its residents have been tested positive for COVID-19. As is the scientific understanding, when most of the population gets infected with any disease, this provides indirect protection or herd immunity (also called herd protection) to those who are not immune to the disease.
Blood tests carried out on more than 20,000 people in Bergamo and the surrounding area between April 23 and June 3 revealed that 57 per cent of people had antibodies indicating they had come into contact with Covid-19. Among medical staff, the proportion was 30 per cent.
Doctors have considered it a very encouraging sign. A large section of medical experts around the world believes that if 60 to 70 percent of the population gets infected with the COVID-19, then maybe herd immunity can be developed.
