New Delhi: When the whole world is reeling under the Covid-19 menace and lockdowns have turned out to be the only resort to fight this pandemic including India, a shocking remark by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has sent everyone in tizzy.

Dropping a bombshell on Covid-19 outbreak in India, Captain said that Covid-19 is yet to scale up its impact in the country. “The pandemic would peak in mid-September and around 58% of the countrymen may get infected with this deadly disease,” Punjab CM said, citing opinion of experts.

“Punjab would be worse affected than the rest of country, with almost 87% people getting infected by the disease,” he added.

Though the Punjab CM attributed this to doctors and experts who are studying the pandemic outbreak and spread.

When quizzed by reporters, Punjab CM said, “the figures that I have been given by Indian scientists & medical practitioners are that 58% of the country may get infected. And, if these figures are correct then they are horrendous figures.”

He said that top experts and medical officers are preparing a report on this and once it’s made public, we would know exactly about this.

PGIMER dismisses Capt’s reference on Covid-19 No

Issuing a clarification over Amarinder Singh’s statement, the PGI Chandigarh disapproved of any such study/research being carried out by it.

“PGI Chandigarh said that it isn’t aware that any expert/faculty member from Dept of Community Medicine & School of Public Health of the Institute carried out any study that said COVID19 may peak by mid September & can infect 58% of country’s population,” said PRO, PGIMER, #Chandigarh.

Captain Amarinder Singh had quoted PGIMER for his Covid-19 claims that it will infect over 85% of Punjba and 58% of nation’s population.
