Delhi govt toughens stand, says will take entire facility if hospitals don’t reserve 20% beds for Covid-19 patients

Issuing a clear directive, the Delhi government said that those hospitals who won’t be able to reserve 20% of beds for treatment of Covid-19 patients will be converted fully into Covid hospitals.

New Delhi: With Covid-19 cases burgeoning in the national capital, the Delhi government has its task cut out to make arrangements for treatment of Corona positive patients.

Issuing a clear directive, the Delhi government said that those hospitals who won’t be able to reserve 20% of beds for treatment of Covid-19 patients will be converted fully into Covid hospitals.

“There are a few hospitals which are facing difficulties in reserving 20% of their bed capacity for Covid-19 patients. If they do not agree to the Delhi government’s direction…, we will have to convert them into fully dedicated COVID hospitals,” Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said.

At present, five government hospitals and three private hospitals are functioning as complete Covid-19 facilities. Three private hospitals — Sir Ganga Ram, Moolchand and Saroj Super Speciality — were declared Covid hospitals by the government on Wednesday.

Delhi’s 117 Pvt hospitals , nursing homes to earmark 20% of beds

Last month, the Delhi government had announced that 117 nursing homes and private hospitals were asked to earmark 20% of their total bed strength dedicated for coronavirus patients.

“In order to increase the bed capacity for coronavirus patients, all 117 nursing homes/private hospitals having bed strength of 50 or more are directed/earmark at least 20 per cent of their total bed strength for COVID-19 patients,” the government had said in an official statement.

As per the latest data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of coronavirus cases in the national capital stands has crossed 23,000 mark.
