Increase gap between two doses of Covishield to 6-8 weeks: Centre writes to states

New Delhi: The Centre on Monday asked the States/UTs to Increase the Interval between two doses of the COVISHIELD vaccine to 6-8 weeks based on NTAGI and NEGVAC Recommendation.

COVISHIELD vaccine is developed by AstraZeneca in partnership with the University of Oxford. Currently, the gap between the 2 doses of the vaccine are being administered across India of 28 days.

The letter reads,  In view of the emerging scientific evidence, the interval between two doses of aspecific COVID-19 vaccine i.e. COVISHIELD has been revisited by  National Technical Advisory Groupon Immunization (NTAGI) and subsequently by National Expert Groupon Vaccine Administration fo rCOVlD-19 (NEGVAC) in its 20th meeting. During this meeting there commendation has been revised to provide 2nd dose of COVTSHIELD at 4-8weeks’ interval after the 1st dose, instead of earlier practiced intervals of 4-6weeks.

“This decision of revised time interval between two doses is applicable only to Covishield and not to Covaxin,” the center said.
