India’s coronavirus tally breach 29 lakh cases mark, records highest one-day spike of 68,898 cases

With the latest spike, the total cases stand at 29,05,824 which is inclusive of 6,92,028 active cases while 983 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours in India taking the number of deaths to 54,849, it added.

New Delhi: India’s coronavirus tally breached the 29 lakh cases mark with 68,898 COVID-19 cases reported in the country in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With the latest spike, the total cases stand at 29,05,824 which is inclusive of 6,92,028 active cases while 983 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours in India taking the number of deaths to 54,849, it added.

The number of cured/discharged/migrated patients in the country stands at 21,58,947.

Coronavirus cases in India rise to 29,974; no new cases in 17 districts in 28 days

As per the latest update by the Ministry, Maharashtra — the worst affected state — has a total of 1,62,806 active cases and 21,359 deaths due to COVID-19.

Tamil Nadu has a total of 53,283 active cases and 6,239 deaths while Andhra Pradesh has a total of 87,177 active cases and 3,001 deaths.

Karnataka has a total of 82,165 active cases and 4,429 deaths. Delhi’s active cases tally stands at 11,271 and 4,257 deaths.

Global COVID-19 tally

The number of COVID-19 cases globally has grown by more than 263,000 in the past 24 hours, while over 6,500 patients have died in the same period of time, the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) data revealed on late Thursday.

The WHO said that the total number of new cases in the world amounted to 263,601, while the increment in fatalities to 6,554. Overall, the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide stands at 22,256,220, while the global death toll at 782,456.

WHO declared the outbreak of the new coronavirus a pandemic on March 11.
