New Delhi: Coming out successful in the fight against Covid-19, the state of Uttar Pradesh on January 11, crossed a significant landmark with more than 8 crore people — 8,00,62,472 — receiving both the doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far.
The most populous state has so far given over 21,61,75,656 ‘Shots of Life’ to people. In addition, the state has also achieved the landmark of administering the first dose of the covid-19 vaccine to over 90.20 percent of the eligible adult population. While over 54.25 percent of the population is fully vaccinated in the state.
Committed to providing additional protection cover to the priority group, Uttar Pradesh started administering booster shots (precaution dose) to the frontline and healthcare workers as well as senior citizens from Monday. Over 71,427 ‘precaution doses’ have been administered in the state so far.
Strengthening its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to vaccinate all children between 15 to 18 years of age by January 15. So far, over 2,940,921 teens have been administered vaccine doses in the state.
Ahead of elections, CM orders for district-wise 100% vaccination
In order to ensure a ‘Covid-safe’ election in Uttar Pradesh, the State Government is relying on enhanced vaccination, considering which the Chief Minister has ordered to complete 100 percent vaccination in all the districts in a phased manner.
Chairing a high level review meeting on Monday, Yogi Adityanath directed the officials, “In view of the assembly elections, there is a need to speed up the vaccination drive. According to the announced election programme, the target of 100% vaccination should be fixed by identifying the districts in a phased manner. Every citizen of the concerned district should be ensured to get vaccine-cover 10 days before the polling date.
The Chief Minister also ordered the officials to prepare a detailed action plan on this new policy.
Standing on the top, Uttar Pradesh has administered 21.61 crore total doses. The State is followed by Maharashtra with 14.02 crore doses.
In the light of the emergence of the new variant ‘omicron’, the government has expedited its vaccination coverage in the state. According to the latest figures on CoWin, Uttar Pradesh has administered 13.60 first doses of the vaccine so far.
Just a few days after crossing the twenty-one-crore dose milestone, UP has also inched closer to crossing the 22 crore covid-19 vaccine shots. This will be another major landmark as the state continues to conduct one of the most successful vaccination campaigns in the country.
As the cases rise in other states in the country, the demand to get vaccinated remains high as it is the only option to fight out the invisible enemy and the new variants of coronavirus.
