US & EU treating students inoculated with Covaxin as ‘unvaccinated’: ABVP urges Health Minister to resolve issue
ABVP National Secretary Sushri Nidhi Tripathi said, "Looking at the uncertainty and the gravity of the situation, ABVP has today requested the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare to look into and resolve the issues faced by the students who wish to study abroad.
New Delhi: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) submits a memorandum to the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare regarding admissions of Indian students, who are vaccinated with Covaxin and students below the age of 18 years who do not fall within vaccination bracket, to the foreign universities.
ABVP in its memorandum to Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, drew attention towards the Indian students struggling for admission to the foreign universities. Many countries including USA and European countries are treating Indian students vaccinated with Covaxin as ‘unvaccinated’.
Such treatment is a source of a grave inconvenience and academic loss to the Indian students. It is pertinent to note that Covaxin has proved to be 78% effective against the virus in the clinical trials conducted by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with ICMR and National Institute of Virology. Top virologosts from all over the world including Dr. Anthony Fauci, Chief Medical Advisor to the White House have conceded that Covaxin has been found to be effective against 617 variants of Corona virus.
Apart from this, many higher secondary students apply for admissions to foreign universities. Students aged below 18 who have passed SAT for admissions to American or British Universities have not yet been covered under the vaccination policy which makes them prone to academic loss.
ABVP National Secretary Sushri Nidhi Tripathi said, “Looking at the uncertainty and the gravity of the situation, ABVP has today requested the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare to look into and resolve the issues faced by the students who wish to study abroad. We have also requested the minister to issue a statement with regards to the same at the earliest, so that the concerns of students and their parents are addressed. We have also requested the government to try and end the impasse with WHO and other international organisations.”
