New Delhi: In the wake of violent clashes in Manipur, NEET (UG)-2023 exam has been postponed for the candidates who were allotted examination centers in the state. MoS Education Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh wrote to National Testing Agency (NTA) requesting to reschedule the exam. As internet and broadband services are at a halt in Manipur, the officials are informing the candidates via automatic phone calls and e-mails.

Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh said that students cannot appear for NEET (UG)-2023 exam because of broadband and internet connectivity issues in Manipur. He requested the NTA to reschedule or postpone the exam in the state and the agency circulated a notification about the postponement of the exam.

The NEET (UG)-2023 examinations were to be conducted on May 7. NTA has not yet announced the new date for the exams in Manipur.

The violence began on May 3, during the ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ called by the All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) in the Torbung area of Churachandpur district. The march was held as a sign of protest against the demand of non-tribal Meiteis to be given Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

The news of violence in the state is making headlines everyday and Assam Rifles of the Indian Army and paramilitary forces have been deployed in Manipur, and the forces have evacuated about 16,000 people from the violence hit areas. A curfew was also imposed in the several districts of Manipur and the internet services have also been suspended for five days.
