New Delhi: After facing an indefinite period of delays and postponements, Superstar Akhil Akkineni’s latest spy thriller Agent is finally on its way to arrive on the digital platform.
The movie, made with a massive budget of ₹60 crore, was released on the big screens with high expectations and fans were expecting it to mint a decent amount of money at the ticket window.
However, despite having a cast full of superstars and a director as talented as Surender Reddy, Agent received a horrible response from the moviegoers as well as critiques and fell face-first at the box office right after its first day. Following the flick’s failure at the cinema, its producer Anil Sunkara spoke about the same and openly regretted his decision not to shoot the spy thriller with a bounded script.
Agent’s Box office debacle not only hurt its stakeholders financially but also forced the makers to halt its OTT release on leading digital platform Sony Liv which earlier bagged the movie’s digital right by cracking a successful deal with them.
Agent arriving on OTT
Finally, after taking all the needed time in the movie’s re-editing as well as restoring its deleted scenes, the filmmakers are now set to try their luck with the OTTIans by bringing Agent on the digital platform Sony Liv after months of delay.
Announcing the same, the digital platform on Tuesday took to its Twitter and dropped the movie’s much-awaited OTT premiere date saying. “Prepare for espionage like never before. Agent starring Akhil Akkineni & Mammootty will stream on Sony LIV screens from Sept 29”

Sony’s tweet makes it officially confirmed that Mammootty starrer Agent will be available for streaming on their digital platform from the upcoming Friday (29 September). However, in order to enjoy the much-anticipated actioner from the comfort of the couch, one must have a basic subscription to the said Platform.

Helmed by ace director Surender Reddy, Agent boasts a stellar cast of Akhil Akkineni, Mammootty, Sakshi Vidya and Dino Morya in the leading roles. Its thrilling story centres around the life of a dedicated Raw agent with a mysterious past Ramakrishna (Ricky) whose life takes an unforeseen turn when Raw Chief Coloenal Mahadev sends him to the Hungarian Capital Budapest on a secret mission.
During his mission, Ricky must leave no stone unturned in apprehending an ex-Raw agent who has been running a dangerous terrorist organization after turning rogue. How Ricky manages to do the assigned task full of thrill, adventure and life-threatening challenges is the remaining of the story of the film.
The movie is produced by Anil Sukandra who released it on the big screens under the banner of AK Entertainment on 27 April 2023.
