New Delhi: Widely acclaimed & Oscar award-winning composer A R Rahman found himself in the midst of controversy over a weekend concert titled ‘Marakuma Nenjam’ at Adtiyaram Palace in Chennai’s Paniyur on September 10.
The concert saw music maestro’s umpteen fans swarming at the venue. The event which could been celebration of music & fun turned into a nightmare due to overcrowding at the venue. As the crowd went beyond control, the organizers found themselves scrambling to maintain order.
Soon after the show, many trained guns at the music composer on the social media and also slammed the organizers (ACTC Events) for poor crowd management.
ACTC Events, the organizer of AR Rahman’s show found itself in the crosshairs of people for ‘overselling’ show tickets and evading responsibility in the critical situation.
While the number of people assembled at the spot exceeded the sale of tickets, the poor crowd management meant that concert was headed towards chaos.
Some claimed that excessive tickets were sold for the show while some others complained of some women being molested at the event.
Rahman’s apology
Following the wide uproar & outrage, the music maestro himself chose to issue a ‘public apology over inconvenience’ meted out to people.
Rahman said he was ‘terribly disturbed’ over the turn of events at this show, last night.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “It was tsunami of people and love that we were unable to handle,” the music composer said. “As a composer, my job was to give a terrific show, and I thought everything else would be taken care of. I was just thinking it shouldn’t rain, and was happily performing inside, without any idea of what was happening outside. Our intentions were good, but I think the response was beyond our expectations.”
Dearest Chennai Makkale, those of you who purchased tickets and weren’t able to enter owing to unfortunate circumstances, please do share a copy of your ticket purchase to [email protected] along with your grievances. Our team will respond asap🙏@BToSproductions @actcevents

He said that he was expecting a terrific show but never did he or the organizers anticipate that such a huge population will come his way.
