New Delhi: If you have watched the movie ‘Animal’, accused of promoting bloody & gory violence, many of you would have been confused how Bobby Deol’s character turns to be a Muslim villain despite belonging to a family of Sikhs. If you are still searching for clues, the film director himself has come out to clear the air.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga, in an interview to Galatta Plus, has revealed why he gave an unsuual twist to the characters. The director shed light on some shady areas of the film and also gave a lowdown on why his choices were backed by reasoning and was not merely playing to the gallery.
Bobby Deol, who plays Abrar in the film, plays the role of an antagonist and while Ranbir Singh plays Ranvijy Singh, the main protagonist of the movie.
The director’s take comes in light of severe backlash for the film by the Muslim community as it accused him of portraying them in bad light.
q3wqThe director said that Bobby’s character got converted to Islam because of the personal trauma in early stages of life.
“I have seen people changing their names & religions because of their personal trauma as this helps them in overcoming this. Also, this remains a reality in our society. We see a lot of people converting to Islam & Christianity, however, such pattern is not witnessed in Hinduism’, Sandeep explained.
He further explained that religion change of Bobby Deol (Abrar) further gave him a chance to experiment with the role. He made him have three wives as the religion allows this.
“The only intention behind this was to increase the intensity of drama and not a motive to show the Muslims in a bad light,” he further said.
Bobby Deol (Abrar) is a mute character in the film. He goes voiceless after traumatising death of his father. He and Ranvijay are seen engaging in bloody violence but later it is revealed that they belong to the same family.
Another scene that has created a stir on social media is Abrab applying force on his wife & violating her. The antagonist disturbed by news of his brother’s death first misbehaves with wife & then forces himself on her. The marital rape in the movie elicited critical remarks from many quarters, for the movie as well as the director.
