No one can deny that Deepika Padukone is not only the undisputed queen of Bollywood but also the face of Indian stars on the international platform. From unveiling FIFA 2022 trophy and being the face of Louis Vuitton to winning over 80 awards in her shining career of 15 years, Deepika has it all now. But it is impossible to rise to the throne of this industry without making any rivals in the journey.
So, as Bollywood’s Mastani is celebrating her 37th birthday today, let’s take a look at those names who started their career almost at the same time with Deepika and didn’t let her dominate the industry, single-handedly. These are also the actresses with whom Deepika hasn’t been very comfortable with on a personal level, apparently due to various reasons.
1. Sonam Kapoor
This rivalry was inevitable as both then-novice actresses debuted at the same time in 2007. While Sonam Kapoor’s Saawariya was a box office disaster, Deepika Padukone’s Om Shanti Om was a blockbuster that took her to new heights of fame. Right after, rumors of their rivalry got flamed once again as both of them dated Ranbir Kapoor subsequently.
Then Sonam Kapoor continued to take digs at Deepika on various occasions.
In Koffee with Karan, she made it clear she wasn’t a fan of Deepika’s fashion saying she would rather have someone who wears jeans and a T-shirt (Katrina Kaif) than someone who wants to be on the cover of vogue every three months.
Similarly, when Deepika came out with her struggles with Depression and became an advocate for mental health, Sonam took another dig saying she wouldn’t flaunt it on social media if she takes up a cause.
But we all know how things ended for both actresses. Sonam once made a remark saying she didn’t have an “over-enthusiastic PR team” like Padukone.
2. Anushka Sharma
Anushka and Deepika’s relationship soured when her Band Baja Baraat co-actor Ranveer Singh ditched her out of nowhere to be with the dimple queen Deepika.
The war has been mostly cold but we get regular glimpses that things never mended between them. Deepika was the only missing big name from Anushka’s wedding reception when all other members of the Industry were present.
Similarly, some time ago, Anushka Sharma’s byte from an old interview with the Mumbai Mirror surfaced where she was seen saying that there is no comparison between her and Deepika. She went ahead shading Deepika that she doesn’t pick any movie that is thrown her way.
3. Kangana Ranaut
Kangana Ranaut has grumbled about all leading actors of the industry, so her minced words at Deepika Padukone, who is at the top of Bollywood right now, should surprise no one. The conflict goes back to 2014 when DP won the best actress award for her movie ‘Happy New Year.’
Deepika decided to dedicate the award to Kangana for Queen who didn’t win any award. Kangana, however, didn’t like her act and later said that she would appreciate it more if she tells her in person what she feels about her work.
Deepika called up Kangana after her statement to clarify how she really liked her work in Queen.
Just as things were getting settled Deepika couldn’t attend Tanu Weds Manu Returns screening which upset Kangana.
When TWMR’s producer invited Deepika to the success bash of the movie, Kangana walked out without even greeting DP.
After that Kangana became quite a social media person with her opinions and the war became one-sided completely with Padukone maintaining silence.
From Kangana calling Deepika’s mental health program a “Dhakosla” after SSR’s death to her “Tukde Tukde Gang” comment, the list is too long to mention.
