New Delhi: Produced by Flying Saucer and originating in India, Choona is a hilarious Hindi heist comedy-drama series written and directed by Pushpendra Nath Misra. It has a great ensemble cast, with Jimmy Shergill being one of them. On August 3, 2023, Netflix will be the first streaming service to debut Choona.

Plot
Choona follows a motley group of misfits as they band together to take down a superstitious and unscrupulous politician. They plot an ambitious theft as a means of exacting their vengeance on the politician.

Shukla is a ruthless politician hoping to get to the position of chief minister. Seven very different people including an astrologer, a cop, a police informant, a student leader, a lover, a silent guy, and an alcoholic all stand in his way. They do their hardest to make Shukla happy, but he always puts them down in the end.
In a twist of fate, these disparate people find common ground and establish an improbable group. Their grand scheme includes stealing Rs 600 crore from Shukla’s party headquarters and fleeing the country secretly.

Review
The plot of the series is exciting, and it’s filled with a wealth of cultural references. Jimmy brought a lot of wit and charm to his portrayal of Shukla. The other co-actors in the production also performed very well to fully immerse themselves in Choona’s universe.
The filmmakers describe Choona as a fantastical universe steeped in astrology and ingenious workarounds that make it distinctively Indian. It has everything an audience needs to have a good time: humour, drama, suspense, action, and romance.

The show managed to tell a polished, global narrative while remaining firmly rooted in its own community. The project has been a good narrative, with extensive visual effects, which Netflix has enthusiastically backed. Overall, Choona is a great programme to see all at once.
