New Delhi: Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone donated Rs 15 Lakh for kidney transplant of acid-attack survivor Bala Prajapati.

Bala Prajapati, an acid-attack survivor is also Deepika’s  Chhapaak co-actor.

First Rs. 10 lakh were donated by Deepika and later in the evening, she donated Rs. 5 lakh. For now, Rs 16,00,558 has been collected for Bala’s treatment.

Bala, a resident of Bijnor in western UP, became the acid victim by her landlord. During the attack, her grandfather was also attacked and lost his life.

Bala had to undergo 12 surgeries after her face, throat, and hair were burnt.

Depression is like any other illness, says Deepika Padukone

Bala joined Sherose Hangout in 2017, a cafe run by the Chhaon Foundation for acid victims. This made her self-sufficient and she started helping her father financially who is a farmer, her mother and siblings.

“Bala is a real-life star who also featured on The Kapil Sharma show. She has inspired many by surviving even the toughest of times but is now forced to battle for life,” said Ajay Tomar.

Chhanv Foundation on Thursday said, “Her condition is deteriorating every day due to the failure of both her kidneys and she is somehow surviving on dialysis. Without a kidney transplant, she won’t live to see another day. Being an acid attack survivor, her weakened immunity is already a threat to her life,” continues “Moreover, there are 150 different survivors with stories like Bala, whom Chhanv wants to help through its campaign called ‘Smile Goal Hai’. If more generous people like Deepika Padukone come forward to help these survivors, lives can be transformed,” the statement read. (Quotes from Hindustan Times)
