Fashion designer Wendell Rodricks passes away in Goa at 59

Wendell Rodricks was known for creating designs that brought together the traditional with the relaxed Goan vibe.

New Delhi: Padma Shri award winner and popular fashion designer Wendell Rodricks passed away at his Goa residence today. He was 59.


“Deeply saddened to hear about the sudden demise of my very good friend and designer, Wendell Rodricks. His excellency in his work & skills are irreplaceable & shall always be cherished. We will truly miss him. My heartfelt condolences to his family & dear ones,” Goa’s health minister Vishwajit Rane tweeted.

Rodricks was known for creating designs that brought together the traditional with the relaxed Goan vibe.

The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) also mourned the sudden demise of designer Wendell Rodricks.


“FDCI is deeply disheartened with the sudden and untimely demise of one of the country’s iconic designer, Wendell Rodricks. The fashion fraternity lost a legend today. Wendell, we will miss you,” it posted from its Twitter handle.

Rodricks was passionate about setting up Moda Goa Museum, which is dedicated to the history of Goan costumes. He was overseeing the ongoing work.

A well-known gay activist, Rodricks was married to Jerome Marrel.
